Job Description
Position SummaryThe Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for efficiently handling all inbound and outbound shipments for a food production facility. This includes operating a battery-operated sit-down forklift, loading and unloading trucks, handling tomato totes, canned goods, and other food materials, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The role may also require assisting with cleanup procedures in the event of spills and supporting proper inventory rotation. Some deliveries may involve operating or riding on a trolley crane.Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a battery-operated sit-down forklift to load and unload trucks.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and ingredients, including totes and canned goods.
- Prepare, palletize, and stage outbound shipments according to schedule.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts
- Use warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and trolley cranes as needed.
- Complete shipping and receiving logs, paperwork, and digital documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness in loading and storage areas; assist with cleanup of spills or damaged goods.
- Communicate with drivers, production staff, and supervisors to ensure efficient material flow.
- Follow all safety rules, GMPs, food safety guidelines, and company procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Forklift experience required; certification a plus
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a warehouse/production environment.
- Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving processes.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and safety awareness.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a food production or food distribution environment.
- Knowledge of FIFO inventory practices and food safety handling.
- Experience with trolley crane operations (training available if not experienced).
- Warehouse and production environment with varying temperatures.
- Regular operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
- Potential exposure to spills requiring proper cleanup and sanitation procedures.
