Our client in Sterling Heights, MI is currently seeking an experienced Prototype Fabricator to support automotive development and production projects. In this role, you will build and modify sheet metal prototype components used in vehicle programs, working closely with engineering and production teams. Our client in Sterling Heights, MI is currently seeking an experienced Prototype Fabricator to support automotive development and production projects. In this role, you will build and modify sheet metal prototype components used in vehicle programs, working closely with engineering and production teams. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced automotive environment and takes pride in precision work. What You’ll Do
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment including press brakes, punches, rollers, and shears
- Fabricate and modify sheet metal components for automotive prototypes and low-volume builds
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and engineering specifications
- Measure, layout, and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision tools
- Fit and qualify parts to models, fixtures, and print specifications
- Ensure parts meet tight automotive tolerances and quality standards
- Support prototype builds, engineering changes, and program launches
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues and work with engineering on improvements
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Minimum 4 years of sheet metal fabrication experience (automotive preferred)
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills
- Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment (press brake, punch, etc.)
- Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges)
- Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries
- Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience supporting automotive prototype or launch environments
- Familiarity with automotive materials and forming processes
- Background working with OEM or Tier 1 suppliers
- Strong problem-solving and process improvement skills
