Job Description

Cardinal Staffing is seeking qualified SMAW Welders (Stick Welders) for a facility in Belleville, MI.   1st shift = 5AM - 3PM (10 hour shift)   $18-$21 per hour Monday - Thursday OR Tuesday - Friday (Must be flexible to work either shift). Some overtime may be required if production needs increase. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform SMAW (stick welding) on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloys per project specifications
  2. Interpret blueprints, welding procedures, and technical drawings
  3. Set up and operate welding equipment safely and accurately
  4. Inspect and prepare weld surfaces, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up
  5. Conduct weld inspections using visual and measurement tools to ensure quality
  6. Maintain welding tools and equipment in good working condition
  7. Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use and hazard communication
  8. Assist with fabrication, cutting, grinding, and assembly as needed
  9. Work independently or as part of a team in various environments (indoor/outdoor)
Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience as an SMAW or stick welder
  2. Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and blueprints
  3. Knowledge of safety protocols and welding standards (e.g., AWS, ASME)
  4. Strong attention to detail and workmanship
  5. Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods
  6. Welding certification(s) preferred but not required (e.g., AWS D1.1)
Work Environment:
  1. May involve exposure to heat, sparks, and loud noises
  2. Requires use of protective gear such as helmet, gloves, and respirator when necessary
  3. Work may be conducted in varying weather conditions or confined spaces
Compensation:Competitive pay based on experience
 Overtime and shift premiums may apply

The purpose of this job is to produce quality, consistent welds while remaining in compliance with all safety protocols at all times. 
Essential Functions of Job:As a stick welder, you must select the right type of weld for the job and produce structurally sound, clean welds. You may use traditional arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), manual metal arc welding (MMA or MMAW), or flux core, or double shielded, arc welding (FCAW) techniques, depending on the application. 
Skills required to carry out the essential functions include the ability to:
  • Understand and follow directions and rules
  • Safely and effectively operate various machinery and equipment
  • Produce (quality and quantity) parts that meet specifications and expected output levels
  • Visually identify and correct deficiencies in parts produced
  • Interact appropriately and collaborate with fellow employees and management
  • Communicate effectively (written and oral) with other employees and management
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service
  • Work efficiently in a fast paced manufacturing environment with the flexibility to prioritize duties and multi-task at different levels
  • Excellent work history and attendance is a MUST!
Physical requirements which are part of the essential functions:Standing, sitting, moving, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping hearing or equivalent, sight-visual acuity.Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers including fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism; skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects; coordinating the movement of more than one limb simultaneously and bending or stooping repeatedly or continually over time.  Mental requirements which are part of the essential functions:The ability to read and understand work instruction plans, diagrams and specifications.Effectively communicate and interact with others.  Educational and or prior experience requirements include:High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years relevant experience.
