Cardinal Staffing is currently looking for a plant mechanic for our client in Belleville, MI!
The Plant Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of heavy machinery and equipment to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with diesel and gasoline engines, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical components. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently on a fast-paced production site.Key Responsibilities

The Plant Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of heavy machinery and equipment to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with diesel and gasoline engines, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical components. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently on a fast-paced production site.Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on diesel and gasoline-powered heavy machinery.
- Repair and rebuild engines, drivetrains, and related mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot and service hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Perform electrical diagnostics and repair electrical system failures.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair cooling systems, brakes, and emissions systems.
- Complete preventive maintenance (PM) tasks according to schedule and manufacturer guidelines.
- Follow all plant safety policies and OSHA guidelines during maintenance tasks.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and parts used.
- Identify potential mechanical issues before they lead to equipment downtime.
- Communicate effectively with leadership and production teams regarding repair status and required parts.
- Assist with equipment setup, testing, and adjustments as needed.
- Recommend improvements to maintenance processes and equipment reliability.
- Support other mechanics and maintenance personnel when required.
- Shift: Day shift only
- Schedule: 4/10s (Four 10-hour shifts per week)
- Pay Rate: $18.00 – $19.00 per hour, based on experience
- Employment Type: Temporary to Full-Time
- Environment: Industrial / plant maintenance setting
