Our client in Sterling Heights, MI is currently seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for machining precision components using manual mills and lathes. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for machining precision components using manual mills and lathes. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys working in a shop environment with a variety of projects.
What You’ll Do:
- Set up and operate manual milling machines (Bridgeport) and engine lathes
- Perform machining operations including drilling, tapping, boring, turning, and milling
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
- Work to tight tolerances and ensure high-quality finishes
- Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices
- Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges
- Perform layout work and verify dimensions before and after machining
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Support toolroom, prototype, or repair work as needed
- 3–5+ years of manual machining experience
- Strong experience operating Bridgeport mills and manual lathes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Solid understanding of machining practices, tooling, and materials
- Experience working with tight tolerances
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in automotive, tool & die, or prototype environments
- Basic welding or fabrication experience (asset, not required)
- Strong shop math skills
