Job Description:   Manual Machinist (Bridgeport/Lathe) About the Role
 Our client in Sterling Heights, MI is currently seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for machining precision components using manual mills and lathes. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys working in a shop environment with a variety of projects.
What You’ll Do:
  • Set up and operate manual milling machines (Bridgeport) and engine lathes
  • Perform machining operations including drilling, tapping, boring, turning, and milling
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
  • Work to tight tolerances and ensure high-quality finishes
  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices
  • Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges
  • Perform layout work and verify dimensions before and after machining
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Support toolroom, prototype, or repair work as needed
What We’re Looking For:
  • 3–5+ years of manual machining experience
  • Strong experience operating Bridgeport mills and manual lathes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Solid understanding of machining practices, tooling, and materials
  • Experience working with tight tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in automotive, tool & die, or prototype environments
  • Basic welding or fabrication experience (asset, not required)
  • Strong shop math skills
