Location: St. Johns, MI | Schedule: Training 6:00 AM–4:30 PM for 2 weeks; Regular 12-Hour Day or Night Shift | Pay Rate: $25.04/hour

About the Role
Cardinal Staffing is seeking dependable and mechanically inclined Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Apprentice candidates for a reputable employer in St. Johns, MI. This is a hands-on technical role in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Candidates will complete approximately 2 weeks of training from 6:00 AM–4:30 PM before moving into the regular 12-hour shift schedule. After training, available shifts may include 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM, based on business needs and shift availability.
This opportunity may be a great fit for candidates with maintenance experience, mechatronics schooling, robotics, automation, industrial technology, mechanical repair, electrical basics, HVAC, welding, or other hands-on technical training. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, willing to learn, and interested in growing within industrial maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with maintaining and repairing plant equipment, machinery, and utility systems.
Support preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues and equipment concerns.
Work with experienced maintenance staff to learn repairs, inspections, and equipment adjustments.
Help maintain equipment such as bearings, seals, gear reducers, blowers, vacuum systems, HVAC, and general facility systems.
Use hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment safely.
Read and follow work instructions, maintenance documentation, and safety procedures.
Document completed maintenance tasks, concerns, and repair needs.
Follow all OSHA, food safety, and company safety requirements.
Support housekeeping, general facility maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts as needed.
Job Requirements
Mechatronics, robotics, automation, industrial technology, HVAC, welding, mechanical, electrical, or related technical schooling preferred.
Previous maintenance, repair, mechanical, manufacturing, machine operation, or hands-on technical experience is a plus.
Must be able to complete 2 weeks of training from 6:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Must be able to work a 12-hour shift after training: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM.
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Basic understanding of tools, equipment, troubleshooting, or repair work.
Ability to follow safety procedures and work in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Comfortable working around machinery, moving parts, and production equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer skills for email, documentation, and maintenance records.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, crouch, or kneel as needed.
Must be dependable, safety-minded, and open to training and development.
