Job Description
Cardinal Staffing is currently looking for an Engine Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual engine lathes to produce precision metal components according to blueprints, specifications, and quality standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and experience with manual machining processes such as turning, facing, threading, boring, and drilling. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual engine lathes to machine metal parts to exact specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials.
- Perform turning, facing, chamfering, grooving, drilling, boring, and threading operations.
- Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure parts meet all quality standards.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and adjust machines to maintain proper operation.
- Perform routine maintenance such as lubricating machines, replacing tooling, or cleaning work areas.
- Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to prevent defects or equipment issues.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE use and machine lockout/tagout protocols.
- Experience operating manual engine lathes required.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes and shop safety.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret measurements and tolerances.
- Skilled with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other measurement tools.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; formal machining training is a plus.
- Experience with additional manual machines (milling, grinding, drill presses).
- Knowledge of steel, aluminum, and alloy machining characteristics.
- Ability to produce prototype or custom parts.
- Strong math and geometry skills.
