Job Description
The CNC Mill Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines to produce high-precision metal or plastic parts. The operator will interpret blueprints, load raw materials, set up and adjust machine tools, monitor the production process, and ensure that finished parts meet quality specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation:
Set up and operate CNC milling machines based on technical drawings or blueprints.
Load raw materials into CNC machines, ensuring correct machine setup for each job.
Monitor machine performance and adjust settings to optimize production.
Blueprint Reading:
Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to understand the specifications for each job.
Select appropriate tools, materials, and machine settings based on the blueprint or work order.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to ensure they meet quality standards.
Conduct in-process inspections to detect any discrepancies and adjust machine settings or tools accordingly.
Report any issues related to quality or machine malfunction to the supervisor.
Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on CNC mills to ensure they remain in good working condition.
Clean and lubricate machines as required, making minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
Keep work area clean and organized to maintain safety and efficiency.
Tool Management:
Select and install appropriate cutting tools for each machining task.
Change worn tools and ensure proper tool wear compensation.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Always comply with company policies and safety regulations.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials (e.g., coolant, oils).
Production Reporting:
Maintain production records, log machine performance, and report any issues or deviations.
Collaborate with other team members to meet production targets and deadlines.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 1-3 years of experience operating CNC milling machines, preferably in a manufacturing or machining environment.
Skills:
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
Strong understanding of CNC machine operation, setup, and programming (or ability to assist in basic programming).
Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and gauges.
Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machine issues.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
Requires standing for extended periods, frequent bending, lifting, and handling of materials.
